It's all downhill from here...
Santa brought us an Xbox...well, technically Santra brought CAM an Xbox, but anyone that has children and is reading this knows how THAT goes. It's like a disease...Santa brought Cam the console with one controller and a racing game, then he got a SpiderMan game, and I got a wireless controller. I immediately sat down at my computer and ordered another game. Gauntlet, for those of you keeping track. Hack-n-slash, here we come! I stopped by a used movie/music/game place on my way home from work the next day, and found Shrek 2 for $18, so I brought that home. Jen went shopping yesterday and bought another controller (green, of course, and wireless, too!) and Lord of the Rings, Return of the King. We spent about 3 hours after Cam went to bed getting our @sses whupped at that game, and then I had to go to bed as my eyes were so tired of focusing on the TV they were constantly watering. I'm not sure when Jen went to bed-I heard the sounds of battle coming from the living room as I fell asleep around midnight. I'm going to stop by that used game place again today-he had one of the Prince of Persia games for about $18, and in reading up online yesterday I learned that two of the three Prince of Persia games are ranked in the top Xbox games EVER... So I've learned a few things...I'm geeking out and reading up about games online, and am spending too much time in front of the TV killing monsters and racing ogres and shooting webs. I'm sure it will only get worse from here-we're still one controller short of the maximum that can be used at any one time, so I'm sure there will be another trip to the store...and while we're there......

This morning
I came out to the kitchen and started coffee, then began the morning's internal debate regarding breakfast. I won't go into details-it wasn't pretty-but will say that all the voices in my head decided to go with peanut butter toast this morning. I had already started the coffee pot-that requires no debate-so got my breakfast together.

I carried my plate of toast and my really, REALLY full coffee cup out of the kitchen toward my desk...sloooooowly. I had overfilled the coffee cup, and apparantly staggering like a drunken sailor, so it was very slow going. About halfway there, I started to hear the "Mission: Impossible" song in my head, which made me giggle a little bit. About 4 steps from my computer, my nose starts that desperate, pre-sneeze itch. Nooooo! I stop breathing and make that goofy 'I-have-to-sneeze-but-CAN'T-sneeze-or-something-really-bad-will-happen' face.

Anyway, turns out that I made it to the desk in plenty of time (I still haven't sneezed, thanks very much) and didn't spill a drop. Why did I share that story with you? Because I can. :)

Opinionated post-feel free to ignore me
Have y'all heard of the guy in CA that is scheduled to be executed on the 12th? I can't remember his name, and am not so anal (right now) to have to go look it up; he's one of the founders of the original CA street gangs that ruined so many peoples' lives, and was convicted back in the 80s for the murder of 4 people. He's "reformed" since in jail, and has been writing anti-gang themed children's books with the proceeds going to various charitable foundations. Now that they've nailed down his execution date, there's a bunch of celebrities speaking out now saying that he's reformed and his sentence should be commuted to a life term. The Supreme Court has already declined to review the case-the only hope he has now is the proverbial call from The Governator.

My point (and I DO have one) is this...he was sentenced to death for the murders-his behaviour AFTER the fact should have NO bearing on his fate. He killed four people. That's four people that were someones son or daughter, and possibly someones mom or dad. You can safely assume that for each person he killed, there are at least 3 people whose lives were changed drastically and for that moment, quite dreadfully. I don't care that he's writing children's books. I don't care that he's a great person. He's a great person now because he's monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He's stripped searched and has his every belonging meticulously analyzed at least once a week. Of COURSE he's behaving himself. Has he brought those four people back to life? Has he provided a new parent for the children he left orphaned when he killed those 4 people? I'm willing to bet he has not.

Therefore, I feel that if 12 Californians felt back in the 80s that this man's crime was heinous enough to deserve the death penalty, a little prison redemption and some charity work is not enough spackle to fill in the gaping maw left in his moral fiber. It's easy to be penitent when you have very little other choice.

He

Murdered

FOUR

People.

THAT is what his sentence was based on. That is what the Governator should consider when deliberating the case.

By the way, his name is Stanley Tookie Williams...yes, I finally went and looked it up. Go read up on him at Google News.
