I'm not mature enough for this |
Today during class I was going over the first part of a Robert Sheldon piece called "Manatee Lyric Overture." One of the tuba players was having a particularly difficult time with a certain part, and he asked me if he could just change it to something else...I held up the score (which had "MANATEE LYRIC OVERTURE" in huge letters, with "Robert Sheldon, A.S.C.A.P" in slightly smaller print next to it) and pointed to the composer's name with my baton. "Are you the composer? Is your name 'Robert Sheldon, A.S.C.A.P.'?" Only instead of saying "AZ-cap," I drawled out "ass-cap." Luckily, the other half of the band wasn't paying attention. I felt myself turn bright, bright red, and a terrible case of the wildly-inappropriate-but-completely-unstoppable giggles landed square on my head. I tried hard not to lose it, and just barely managed not to dissolve into gales of hysterical laughter. I looked back up at Joe, and HE got it-he stopped laughing long enough to try a serious, "What did you call me?!" but it was the end of it right there. I had to put my head down on the podium for a moment before we could do anything else. (For those of you that don't know what A.S.C.A.P. is, you can read up on it here.) Lord-it was bad. It was one of those, "Wait, *I* am the grown up here, I must compose myself...heh, ass cap...WAIT-STOP!" And to think that last week I had such a great "I'm a real grown-up now!" moment! |

A new scale |
So we're dieting. Whee! We got a new scale last night-a digital one. The old one was of questionable quality...you weighed different amounts in different places around the bathroom. We weren't sure if that was due to a crappy scale or a possessed house, so we just got a new one (scale, that is). There was a VERY funny moment last night after I opened it up and and got it working...the cats came over to investigate (in cat-owner speak that means they had to approve the presence of something new in their house), and Calli was perched up on top of it like a fat little queen. We figured we'd see how much she weighed, so TJ turned it on, but with her sitting on it already, it merely calibrated to her weight as 0. Ineffective, to say the least. He picked her up, turned it on, and set her down on it, where she stayed put for less than 2 seconds. POOF, she was gone. Unfortunately for Brutus, he happened to walk by a second later, and TJ scoops him up to weigh him. He's holding him and petting him while he turns the scale back on, and then when it's ready, he lowers Bru down to the scale. Bru promptly spreads all four feet out in opposite directions, neatly managing to avoid touching the scale. heh... TJ lifts him up a little, and his feet pull back in together...he lowers him, and they spread out, with only ONE foot touching the scale this time. That was the point that I left. Very funny, and very typical of my cats...and husband, actually. While I'm talking about Brutus...Arlo and Janis yesterday was JUST like Bru. Here's a link. Sure, he could jump up, but why? He prefers to wait for the human elevator. Makes you wonder who's training who... |

Once more, with feeling |
Jen and I officially joined a Weight Watchers meeting last night. We went to the Monday night meeting...probably not the best night of the week, but really the only night the two of us could make it. Also, don't forget that it's January-all the folks with weight loss resolutions are still gung-ho, so there was nearly 20 new people there last night. I recognized one as an old friend from high school, and later realized that the girl with HER? Also and old friend from high school. Small world, no? Anyway, the race is on. We'll see if knowing more people in the group will help or not. On another, much weirder note, I believe I slept on my left wrist wrong. Told you it was weird. It has that loose, needs-to-pop kind of feeling, but any time it gets near the point that it should pop, it hurts like hell. I figure I'll ignore it for now-hell, I can still type, what more do I need?-and if it keeps bothering me, I'll do something about it later. Which is funny, because I got mad at my grandparents yesterday for doing the same thing...more on that later, though. Gotta go to the post office for Jen-I know they must all go, "Oh God, it's that girl!" when they see me now. At least I'm not trying to mail another package to Korea. Yet. That will be later this week. ...sigh...this feels like Monday!! |
